$31 million for 14 local primary schools to support local jobs

Jenny Macklin MP, Member for Jagajaga, today announced that fourteen local primary schools will receive over $31 million for major new infrastructure projects as part of the second round of Primary Schools for the 21st Century (P21).

This announcement brings the total number of local primary schools who benefited from the P21 program to 21, with over $42 million invested in new facilities and infrastructure.
 
Jenny Macklin said that the Rudd Government is undertaking the largest school  modernisation program in Australia’s history to support local jobs.
 
“This investment in our local primary schools is long overdue and will go a long way to supporting local jobs during the global recession” Ms Macklin said.
 
“It has been great to see local principals, parents and tradespeople working together to deliver these important projects, which will begin as soon as possible.”
 
“This funding will provide our students with the very best 21st Century facilities, which will help them to reach their full potential.”

New Construction of Multi Purpose Hall $3,000,000
 
Macleod College MACLEOD
New Construction of Library $2,000,000
 
Mother of God Primary School IVANHOE EAST
Construction of Multipurpose Hall and classrooms $2,000,000
Plenty Valley Montessori School ST HELENA
New Classrooms, Administration Spaces, LOTE Room $2,000,000
 
Rosanna Primary School ROSANNA
New Construction of Library $2,500,000
 
St Francis Xavier’s School MONTMORENCY
Construction of Contemporary Library $2,500,000
 
St Martin of Tours’ School ROSANNA
Construction of classrooms and Library $3,000,000,
 
St Pius X School WEST HEIDELBERG
Construction of Contemporary Library/Resource Room and associated work and refurbishment of Classrooms $850,000

Jenny Macklin encouraged those schools that have not already done so to get their applications in for Round Three which closes on 10 July 2009 and will see all remaining eligible primary schools receive funding.
